GIVE LESS FRUITCAKE, BUY MORE ART (art show)
Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008I was pleased to find out that two of the most creative people I’ve ever been able to know and work with are in an art show this friday at T and P Fine Art Gallery in Philadelphia. I guess it’s a big deal because these two guys were such a big part of the genius behind Paul frank Industries for about 16 years combined. Working at a place like PF for that long could burn some out – you work all day creating all kinds of special amazing-ness and at the end of the day you sign somebody else’s name on your work – but not these two. They have both moved on to bigger and better things, like this art show, and also:
- Benjamin Soto is now art directing a top secret Disney project that I cannot talk about (mostly because I don’t know what the project is).
- Parker Jacobs is now a head creative at the children’s show Yo Gabba Gabba which was created by his brother Christian Jacobs and Scott Schultz.

My Monsters
Thursday, November 20th, 2008Back on Halloween I had a couple pieces in both the Houston and Austin locations of Domy Books for their “Monster Show 3.”
Here are pictures of the four pieces in the show
and here we are the night of the opening. Giselle was a Private I, Chamila was Rosie the Riveter, and I actually didn’t dress up.
The shows run through December 5th. If you’re in Austin this weekend for the East Austin Studio Tour, be sure to swing by Domy, as they are on the tour, to check out all these scary creatures up close.
Here are more Austin monsters and here are more Houston monsters.

Sketchy Bus Rides
Tuesday, July 1st, 2008With gas prices climbing up so high I’ve been riding the bus more frequently to work and back. What was usually a 15 minute drive has become an hour voyage each way. But that’s okay. This gives me a lot of time to catch up on much needed reading AND I get to doodle in my mini sketch book. Here are a few recent pages from the little libro.
These guys were at the front of the bus… I just had to draw them.
These two were sitting behind me whispering loudly about somebody named Angie Phalange. They kept spraying there saliva all around. It was pretty gross.
Here’s a tree with a great falsetto.
Here we have Reginald doing his wing flappin’ jig. Also pictured are a few random dudes.
And here is a bird with a long neck. Her name is luka (with the long nuca). She lives on the second floor. This was not done on the bus. I can’t hold a smooth straight line on the bus if my life depended on it.
