26 Letters – Day 1

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

On Wednesday I brought home all A’s!! I’m trying to practice my lettering skills. I’ve decided to hand draw every letter of the alphabet, doing one sheet a day and one letter a day for 26 days.  Here’s the first sheet that I made.

Horses with Horns

Friday, May 8th, 2009

The girls and I were checking out some art the other day at Art House. Here is my favorite piece of the high school exhibit. I wish I’d noted the artists name.

We were getting ready to leave when we stumbled into the back room where we learned a band was going to be playing in a short matter of time. The band was called Horses with Horns. Chamila LOVED this group and I think it was because the singer was a young girl just a couple years older than she was and their songs were about unicorns, playing, and other things little girls are into. To be honest I loved them too. I guess that makes me a little girl.

Brother and sister.

Chamila, Giselle, and I have been working on songs and I think this show really inspired Chamila. Maybe we’ll play shows with Horses with Horns some day.

FRIDAY ART: Birdwhale Stickers

Friday, May 8th, 2009

I SHOULD be posting stuff I do everyday, but I’m not. Hopefully this new “Friday Art” thing will get me to post more. My buddy Daniel gave me these post office labels and I drew on them… Now I will beautify the city with them.

I’ve let resistance run things for a while but I’m back now. Here’s a new drawing.

Laser Mon T-shirts!!

Saturday, March 7th, 2009

I was at my friend Jeremy’s house a couple weeks ago, for a drawing session, and I was looking through some old photos he’d acquired throughout the years. There were some really good ones but there was one I was crazy about. I had to borrow it and make something out of it. Here is that picture.

Amazing right? What was that third little lady looking at?

Well, I figured it out. I went ahead and jazzed up the image a bit by adding a Jamaican, love-able, monster that goes by Mon (like “hey man” – said with a jamaican accent). Mon just wanted to give these sweet, little, old ladies a giant hug, but you know how little old ladies can be. One of them felt threatened and had to give ol’ Mon a giant zap of laser power in hopes that he would retreat to his native Jamaican Island. Poor Mon.

I printed the 2 color image on sweaty-shop free American Apparel, tri-blend t-shirts and you can pick them up at Parts and Labour on South Congress right now, and all during SXSW.

anniversary2

New Image Art Gallery is turning 15 and to celebrate they’re having the best art show on earth. If you’re in the L.A. area this saturday and want to see magic on walls you need to go to this!! Our friend Matthew Rodriguez got invited to be in this show at the last minute. I stopped by the night before he flew out to L.A. Here are some pictures of some of his work.

This is an art critic that was going to try to go check out the show on Saturday. Everytime I see this puppet he is far from sober. He told me he lost his legs in Nam.

Nakatomi Invitational

Monday, January 12th, 2009

I was asked by Tim Doyle, one of the fine people at the new and ultra cool Nakatomi Inc., if I would be one of three artists to help launch the Nakatomi Invitational. This would include a signed and numbered screen print limited to 250 copies and t-shirt available to the public. I of course answered yes and then proceeded to freak out like a geeky nerd boy about being able to be a part of a project that includes artists of such high caliber. The other two dudes kicking this thing off go by Daniel Danger and Todd Slater. Here are more artists you can expect to see in this Invitational in the future:

Tyler Stout
Mark Todd
Jon Vermilyea
Paul Pope
Rob Jones
Jermaine Rogers

This is an image I did a couple years ago that Tim saw and believed in enough to want to include into his project.

Thank you to Rob Jones and Tim Doyle who were awesome enough to help a brutha out. You guys rule! You can learn more about the Nakatomi Invitational here and you can buy a set or two or three here.

Lombardi/Screamer December 4th in Austin

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

Hello gang, this Thursday night don’t miss the grand Christmas Expo Group Art Show at Gallery Lombardi from 7pm-10pm. Go and pick up some great artwork at discounted prices (once the work is purchased it goes home with the buyer). I have a couple pieces in the show that may look a little familiar.

Rice and Beans Personified

Reginald Skateboard

The exhibit runs through January 4th.

Also Thursday night is the release of Three (which I am also in). What is Three you ask? Here is Mason of The Screamer Company to explain it:

MASON – “The Screamer Company invites you to celebrate the launch of our newest publication – THREE. Come to our office First Thursday, December 4th, 6 – 10 PM to pick up your copy. Orf Brewing will be sponsoring the party and we’ll have live music and art for your enjoyment.”

And here I though three was just a number between two and four.
