FRIDAY ART: Matt The Electrician

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Have you heard of Matt the Electrician before? He’s an electrician turned singer/songwriter/genius and he is pretty awesome (his wife Kathie is pretty rad too) . Matt hired me to make him a fun t-shirt to go along with his latest, freshest sound that he could sell while he’s touring the west coast. Here is what I came up with:

I printed these on un-wrinkled silver American Apparel tees but printed an extra one for myself on a green, wrinkly, shirt.

FRIDAY ART (late): Wade Bowen Tee

Monday, July 13th, 2009

My favorite things to draw and paint are silly colors and bright characters. I can doodle fun stuff all day long but unfortunately I don’t get paid to do that, or at least not yet ;) So my 9-5 is at a screen print shop called East End Ink. My duties include creating and recreating t-shirt and vehicle graphics, proofing artwork, color separating files, etc. Not always the fun-nest work but it pays the bills. We print all types of artwork for schools, organizations, bands, and my favorite… fraternities and sororities… they always know what they want.

So recently an order came across my desk to create some Affliction styled artwork for Texas Country Music singer Wade Bowen using just one color and including a guitar and some crosses. I used to freak out with orders like this but I’ve realized that with the right research and enough vellum I can tackle just about any request.

Behold the Wade Bowen Guitar and Crosses graphic mocked up on a V-neck. Doesn’t it just make you want to jump in the octagon and beat people up and stuff like that?

I designed this t-shirt for Mondo Tees recently. Pick one up at Alamo Drafthouse this weekend for the premier of this wonderful movie.

Please excuse the quality of this picture.

Laser Mon T-shirts!!

Saturday, March 7th, 2009

I was at my friend Jeremy’s house a couple weeks ago, for a drawing session, and I was looking through some old photos he’d acquired throughout the years. There were some really good ones but there was one I was crazy about. I had to borrow it and make something out of it. Here is that picture.

Amazing right? What was that third little lady looking at?

Well, I figured it out. I went ahead and jazzed up the image a bit by adding a Jamaican, love-able, monster that goes by Mon (like “hey man” – said with a jamaican accent). Mon just wanted to give these sweet, little, old ladies a giant hug, but you know how little old ladies can be. One of them felt threatened and had to give ol’ Mon a giant zap of laser power in hopes that he would retreat to his native Jamaican Island. Poor Mon.

I printed the 2 color image on sweaty-shop free American Apparel, tri-blend t-shirts and you can pick them up at Parts and Labour on South Congress right now, and all during SXSW.
